I too have had a hard time getting my head around social networking and i am blessed to have 2 teenagers to help me out. i agree that it is just a different tool that will add value to any marketing proposal and should be considered and added. I believe that some managers do have blinders but i am perceiving an underlying current that most are aware that empowering their greatest asset is the way to go!

There is something for the google / microsoft model - treat them like you would like to be treated or how you would have liked it if you were back at their level... Give them 20% freedom to work on whatever they like - the ingenuity and inspiration comes and benefits the organisation, their own development, and your own management style - we all grow together

Thanks for the comment Alex. Yes the author was caught in the endless cycle of activity, and it takes a focussed effort to reverse the way we approach things. For me, it is a constant reminder to "simplify" and focus on one big important thing at a time and not allow distractions from the lesser things. I have also been caught in the information overload life for a while.

I 've read the full book "4 hours work week". At first it was quite exciting to read about different approach of this guy Ferris. But the thing is - he worked 100 hours per week before he managed to reorganize his business.
